Organized Riders!

I love a movement! Just like the BRU in Los Angeles, New York has The Straphangers. According to thier website they work to as a watchdog group to keep the trains safe and affordable for all.

Spend some time reading about them.

I'd join a group like this in Lexington for sure. This city is too slow to change. The crisis management style, which can barely be called reactionary, is a failure in many areas and public transportation and road improvements are suffering.

We need two groups. A group that advocates for sidewalks (ever try to walk on Nicholasville Rd between Southland and New Circle Rd. or risk your life on Wilson Downing between Lansdowne and N'ville?) and bike lanes and then a group that advocates for more buses with shorter routes so trip time can be cut.

If you want to get one rolling, reply to this post or email me at theserialrider@gmail.com

  1. There is currently a BPAC (Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee) that meets regularly that is filled with local cycling advocates and those wanting more sidewalks. Contact Kenzie Gleason at the city for more information.

In terms of Lextran routes, try to get a copy of the latest Comprehensive Operational Analysis(COA) to see just what their hired experts have recommended for future routes. (Fairly large in PDF format or I'd send you a copy)

  2. you are a rider. while most would be satisfied to get a single effort started, here you are advocating for not only one but two groups.

    definitely a rider.
